School of Humanities General Education, with its predecessor of the Basic Courses Department, was firstly named as Humanities Department in 2005 and was taken on its current name in 2009. It undertook the administration ofserves as an important base both for the teaching of the entire school common compulsoryrequired courses for all students as well as and for four the qualified professionals with competencevocational majors, namely Business English, Tourism Management, Human Resources Management, and International Cruise Management. After the institutional restructuring in 2014, the four original majors (Business English, Tourism Management, Human ResourcesManagement, and International CruiseManagement)were separated transferred to other schools from School of Humanities. in order to strengthen the general education. Meanwhile, another two new teaching and researchdivisions:Two new divisions were organized in the spring of 2014. Today School of General Education consists of 6 divisions: Art Education, and Chinese Classics were added to the remainingfour divisions,namely,,Ideological and Political Education, Military Sports, General English and Mathematics. At present, School of Humanities General Education has a faculty of 46 staffsmembers, among whom 19 are associate professors and 26 hold master degrees.
Holding the general education as its development philosophy, School of General Education Humanities combines the curricular innovation with extracurricular activities as its basic education approaches, and builds up the comprehensive student qualities system with six modules, including health quality, civic literacy, scientific spirit, humanistic quality, international vision and practice ability. It is always committed to cultivating all-round competence in students of Zhejiang Institute of Communications, and to taking high moral values establishment and people cultivation as the fundamental task.
